The Smarter Lunchrooms program has been in effect long enough that early adopters have begun reaching the end of their initial 36-month TAP certification period. Some have completed subsequent full TAP certification programs, either in local trainings by SLM National Office staff or at our yearly Symposium at Cornell University, which acts as a renewal and “restarts the clock.” However, this is not convenient or cost-effective for all implementers. Therefore, we have also created an easy, local way for individuals to re-certify for free online and in their workplaces. This recertification program is approved for three continuing education credits (3 CEUs) from the School Nutrition Association (SNA).
To renew your certification, a currently-certified TAP must complete the following steps:
- Complete the free 2-hour self-paced online course Creating Smarter Lunchrooms, presented by eCornell. It is worth 2 CEUs from SNA. You will receive PDF of Certificate of Completion.
- Complete the free 1-hour self-paced online course Using the Smarter Lunchrooms Scorecard to Assess and Measure Impact, presented by the Healthy Food Choices in Schools Community of Practice. It is worth 1 CEU from SNA. You will receive PDF of Certificate of Completion.
- Complete a school lunchroom site visit. Enter the information and photographs on the Smarter Lunchrooms Online Scorecard Tracker. (TAPs must register on the site if they have not used the Tracker before.) Once all information is entered, Save to receive a PDF of the lunchroom’s Scorecard report. Learn about the Tracker and review how to use it in this webinar.
- Email all three PDFs to SmarterLunchrooms@cornell.edu under the subject line “Name/TAP recertification” with your professional and contact information in the body of the email. The SLM National Office will issue a new TAP certificate which is valid for 36 months.
