The symposium kicks off at 5 PM on Thursday, May 11, 2017 with an evening reception and will conclude on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2 PM. The Symposium will be held on Cornell University’s Ithaca, NY campus at the Statler Hotel.
Join us for both days of the symposium and graduate as a Certified Smarter Lunchroom Training & Technical Assistance Provider!
The symposium will be held on Cornell University’s Ithaca, NY campus at the Statler Hotel, and will conclude on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2 PM.
Thursday: May 11th
The symposium kicks off on Thursday, May 11, 2017 with an optional Smarter Mealtimes Toolkit Brainstorming Session from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Statler Hotel. If you work with child care providers, please join us for this optional 1 hour session to help brainstorm the development of a Smarter Mealtimes Toolkit!
Following this optional session, all guests are invited to an evening reception starting at 5 PM.
Friday: May 12th (8:30 AM - 4 PM)
On Friday the program is geared towards school nutrition professionals. We’ll cover:
- The theories of food psychology and behavioral economics and how they relate to school lunchrooms
- The latest Smarter Lunchrooms research findings
- The newest Smarter Lunchrooms tools and resources
- The new and improved 60 point Smarter Lunchrooms Scorecard
- How to build your own Smarter Lunchroom
Saturday: May 13th (8:30 AM - 2 PM)
On Saturday the program is geared towards representatives from state agencies and departments, public health representatives, and others from outside the school system who want to support an improved nutrition environment.
The program will focus on the following topics:
- Learn your role as a Smarter Lunchroom Trainer and Technical Assistance Provider.
- Get tips on how to engage schools, track progress, and keep the momentum going.
- Determine best methods for integrating research and data collection into a Smarter Lunchroom Makeover.
- Learn from successful statewide Smarter Lunchroom initiatives from across the country.
- Network, brainstorm, and problem-solve with experienced Smarter Lunchroom states’ representatives.
Keep in mind: you must attend both days in full to become a Certified Smarter Lunchrooms Technical Assistance Provider.

Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport is our local airport and is located just 4 miles from the Cornell University campus. Transportation can be provided to and from your hotel with their shuttle services.
Syracuse Hancock International Airport is located 60 miles outside of Ithaca, located in Syracuse, New York. You will need to arrange transportation to Ithaca. You can arrange this through a local service, such as Ithaca Airline Limousine.
Greater Binghamton Airport is located 40 miles outside of Ithaca
Elmira/Corning Regional Airport is located 40 miles outside of Ithaca
