Holiday greetings to you and your team! The Smarter Lunchrooms Movement National Office is pleased to share two great resources for 2019: updated versions of the Smarter Lunchrooms Scorecard and National Handbook. As with previous versions, these tools provide schools with the knowledge, motivation, and support needed to build lunchroom environments that make the healthy choice the easy choice for all students.
Two strategies have been updated in response to the conclusion of the HealthierUS School Challenge program. Within the School Community Involvement section of the Scorecard, the previous strategy regarding connections to food programs has been split and expanded into two new items. Involvement with national food promotion programs such as Fuel Up to Play 60 still counts as one item, and now involvement with local businesses, including Farm to School and farmers' markets, counts as a separate item. This minor change ensures that schools do not automatically lose a point as a result of the conclusion of the HUSSC program, while further incentivizing schools to reach out to local organizations to be partners in their Smarter Lunchrooms initiatives. The corresponding sections of the Handbook have been updated to match these changes.
The . It is available in standard, Spanish, and 508-compliant versions. You can also register on our website for an account to use the Online Scorecard Tracker. You can also visit this page to learn more about and register to use the Online Scorecard Tracker.
The Smarter Lunchrooms Movement continues to expand throughout the 50 states, now reaching 35,000 schools. The versatile, simple, low- or no-cost strategies can help every school promote healthy choices and nudge students to select, eat, and enjoy healthy foods in school.
We look forward to supporting your efforts in 2019. As always, we will continue to bring you new and improved tools and resources to make your work in schools easier and more effective.
