The 2018 Smarter Lunchrooms Symposium was a hit! Over 100 participants and guest presenters learned about current Smarter Lunchrooms research and became certified as Technical Assistance Providers (TAPs). There was a great fusion of theory and practice, first timers and skillful veterans. The presentations, discussions, panels, and activities were engaging and the free resources fair showcased great ideas to use or adapt from colleagues all over the country. There were also special presentations on how to form and make the most of a Smarter Lunchrooms state collaborative group, utilize organizational and social media technology to support work in schools, boost breakfast, write a successful grant proposal, enact Smarter Mealtimes in early childhood education settings, and much more! Lastly, the SLM National Office shared updates on the TAP certification process and exciting new opportunities for state collaboratives.
Our only regret was that so many interested colleagues were unable to travel to Ithaca to join us – it is quite a journey to get here! ☺ We have received many requests to share the content online for those who were unable to travel to Ithaca to join us in person. Over the next weeks and months, the SLM National Office will post highlights from the symposium on SmarterLunchrooms.org to help our colleagues across the country benefit from this great program! We have already started rolling out free resources and will be constructing an online library. The new TAP-only training materials will be posted later this month. The research and special topics presentations were recorded and are in post-production (video editing, adding subtitles, etc.). Don’t miss an update--follow us on the Lunchroom Buzz and @SmartLunchrooms on Twitter!
